return to the top of the page mail to Beck-Hartweg contactMy VINEYARDS, cultivated in organic way, require a lot of manual labour like pruning in winter, binding the vine shoots in spring and of course the grape picking, with a dozen of people, in autumn.
We only spray the vines against diseases when it is really necessary, and only use organic pesticides and plant extracts which respect bio-diversity of nature. In our vineyards, you can see bees, ladybirds, typhlodrome mites, syrphid flies, spiders, birds etc. which help us to reduce the population of grape-worms in a natural manner.

From early spring and throughout summer, the soil is covered with all kinds of very small flowers and plants. Florian mows the vegetation as late as possible in summer to let the plants run to seed and increase the diversity of species. (see the photos below)

My vineyards and my working methods
For a long time we practised integrated viticulture and we were members of the organisation “TYFLO”. Tyflo is approved by IOBC: International Organisation for Biological and Integrated Control of Noxious.
certified by Ecocert
For the eighth year running, we are growing our vines organically, under the supervision of Ecocert. In 2011 we have finished the probation period and we have harvested certified organic grapes. The 2011 bottles of wine carry the french organic logo. From the 2012 wines the cellar is also certified and the bottles carry the european green leaf.
All our work is guided by our wish to respect the soil and the environment.

For your pleasure, we like to keep very old vines rooted in the granite soil. The grapes they yield are smaller, but so fruity!
The vines grow naturally, without chemical fertilisation. The living soil can transform the vegetals falling on the soil into humus. If necessary we bring some "home-made" compost.
The green cover between the vines protects the hill soil against erosion and increases bio-diversity. We also maintain the natural hedges which border our vineyards: wild roses, elder trees, chestnut trees, sloe bushes and brambles. They are important because they shelter diverse fauna : birds, insects etc which are useful for the vine.
